How can you start meditation.
Are you interested in starting a meditation practice but not sure where to start? You are not alone. It can be daunting to start something new, especially something as personal as your own thoughts and feelings. But don't worry, we're here to help. In this blog post we give you some tips on how to start meditation.
Set a timer.
Thoughts can feel restless, but just part of it. Especially if you're new to meditation, it's normal for your mind to wander and feel restless. That's why it's helpful to set a timer for yourself so you can focus on your breathing and the sensations in your body without worrying about time. That's one less thought.
Find your focus.
Once you've settled in and set a timer, it's time to focus on your breathing. Close your eyes and breathe in and out relaxed and calmly. As you inhale, notice the way your chest and abdomen rise and fall with each inhalation and exhalation. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to your breath. You will notice that one day it goes a little easier than the other day. Don't worry about this, this is not weird.
Return to your body
After focusing on your breathing for a while, start paying attention to the rest of your body. Notice any tension or discomfort and see if you can release it as you exhale. Continue to focus on your breathing as you search your body from head to toe. It can help to choose a direction. Top to bottom or bottom to top.
Let go and relax!
When the timer runs out, take a few deep breaths and slowly open your eyes. Congratulate yourself for taking the time out of your day to connect with yourself!
Rub your hands firmly in your hands and make calm movements to get on with your day fresh.
